Your heart races, your hands and legs shake, your stomach hurts and your voice doesn’t come out. Do you identify with this every time you have to give a presentation? You are not the only one, the fear of speaking in public happens to many people. So that those nerves go away and your blood pressure returns to normal, we share what we have called “the KNOW method”.
know your stuff
Write the material, practice it and write it again in bullet points, practice it one more time, write it now in summary, practice it and repeat. This will allow you to flow more in the presentation.
know the place
Look for photos, videos or visit the place before so that you feel comfortable on the day of your presentation. Check if there is a platform, steps, podium, projector, etc. This way you will be calmer and more prepared.
Know who will introduce you and how
Make sure you talk to the person who is going to introduce you first. Send him timely notes about you, your preparation, career, experience, even how to pronounce your name correctly.
know your audience
Knowing who you are going to address is essential so that you can make a presentation according to that group and ensure that the main objective can be fulfilled: that the message gets through. Speaking “their language” keeps them engaged, allows you to create a relationship with your audience while maintaining the energy of both parties.
know the time
When you practice the presentation, you should know how long it takes you since there is usually a specific time given for each person. Practice it out loud, because we speak slower than we read. If it is a few minutes shorter, don’t worry, what you should take into account is that it is not too short, like half the time you have been given.
